And, Yes, I Am Alive

Sorry guys. I’ve know I’ve been a complete bust as a blogger lately. I’ve just had so much going on—lots of (good) stuff at the day job, and two young kids who will soak up all the time and attention that I can give them. But thank you for bearing with me.
Here are some things that I would have written about had I had the time to write about them.
1) Emma Sulkowicz’s bizarre performance art video
2) The abundance of wildlife that has been traipsing across my yard—and in my home—this summer
3) Presidential politics and the Supreme Court
4) My deep, deep desire to go see one of the upcoming Grateful Dead shows—and why I have resisted the urge
5) Various literary frauds
6) A-Rod and the absence of steroids
7) The competitive world of suburban children’s birthday parties
8) Why Hillary is vulnerable
9) So much more
So I will try to get back on track promptly.

School’s out for summer
School’s out forever
No more pencils
No more books
No more teacher’s dirty looks………………………..

Ah, but #1 really has to be that great public intellectual and Harvard professor and exemplar of academic integrity, the one, the only Skipper.

and now that Harry Lewis’s interim deanship ends tomorrow, maybe he’ll be blogging again too!

> the competitive world of suburban children’s birthday parties
There’s a great essay by George Saunders about that.

“Is this some kind of bust?”
“Yes, it’s very impressive.”

And in the whatever-happened-to category, 14,000 people are petitioning for the removal of Ellen Pao as CEO of Reddit.

Question —
From a discussion the other day — is it true that a UVa professor was claiming that the frat guys at UVa deserved whatever abuse they got because they were responsible for a rape culture? That they were guilty of fostering a rape culture because they were 1) male, 2) in a frat, and 3) in the South.
If so, has there been any conversation about litigation against the university under title IX for knowingly maintaining a hostile environment?

Probably does not require much comment anymore but always good to hear your take.

It seems this blog is either shut for summer or perhaps permanently ending. It would appear Richard has a bit too much going on in his life to write here.
We will miss the informed commentary. Alas, another one bites the dust……..

@Anon 7.8 8:28. It’s doubtful any dust has been bitten. He’s got a full time job plus 2 kids out of school for the summer. He’d be derelict if he did spend time here.
But another thing we should add to RB’s Honey-Do List when he finally does get a breather is the Amherst rape hoax story which I don’t think came out until RB was sidetracked by his kids’ summer vacay. Perhaps it was passed on in earlier comments, though.
I won’t provide the outside links because it means this post will get deep-sixed, but the usual suspects of KC Johnson, Robby Souave at Reason & Ashe Schow at WashEx all covered it, and it’s a doozy: an Amherst coed performed oral sex on her roommate’s blacked-out boyfriend- without his consent, in other words - and after later befriending ‘campus rape activists’ she accused *him* of rape two years later.
Despite their finding that he was indeed unconscious when the encounter occurred, Amherst University administration officials bizarrely agreed the incapacitated male somehow unethically took advantage of the female complainant’s sexual aggression and expelled…. him!
There is available the record of texts to another friend which she sent immediately after she performed the sex act in question which suggest she was completely lucid & knew exactly what she had done to betray her roommate’s trust.
Insanity just doesn’t get any more off-the-chain, barking-at-the-moon mad than this.

Sorry Mrs Haven Monahan,
Richard had the same job, and two kids a year ago, and was still able to put up 10 interesting and worth reading posts in each of June and July of 2014.
Your apologist mea culpa for Richard would not seem to cut it.
EIther Richard has a blog or he doesn’t, and for all intents and purposes he really doesn’t any more.
All the following and good press from his earlier work is dissipating in an exponential fashion. Even I’m tempted to remove this bookmark, and just follow those that actually blog like KC Johnson, or others with any reasonable regularity.
Time moves on, and so will we……..
Alas, for the second time….. Richard, it was great reading you when you wrote…..
Have a good rest of summer!!

I’m just glad whenever Richard posts, and I get to read what he writes.

@ anonymous: My “apologist mea culpa for Richard would not seem to cut it”?
My goodness, some people have an exaggerated sense of entitlement to things they don’t pay for, don’t they? 😉
I wasn’t defending him, he’s not guilty of anything requiring a defense.
1) He writes when he has time. 2) He doesn’t have time now. 3) This particular set of circumstances happens to people with real lives & isn’t the least bit unusual.
Actually, you just implied yourself that you had better things to do with your time than come here without regular new content to read.
Well, it seems that Mr. Bradley does too.[Gasp!] Imagine that!
