My Idea of Hell

Listening to Lena Dunham give advice.
“I was like, so into counting almonds that I don’t think I got laid that entire time….”
But you feel free.

I think you may have missed the point on this one. Taking the almonds comment out of context- yes it sounds incredibly petty. But I appreciate Lena’s entire comment about being at her goal weight. Once she was there, she was so obsessed with maintaining it (counting almonds) she didn’t get to actually enjoy being at that weight.
RB- maybe you’ve never been on a diet/struggled with weight?
I await better posts (the kind I’m used to on this blog).

It’s not that the comment sounds petty, Sarah, it sounds stupid. And pointlessly self-revealing.
My objection to this string of videos is that none of them are really about the people who may have written to Dunham. (They could be fake.) They’re about Dunham. In every instance, she replies to the questioner by talking about her own experience, with the presumed perspective that, because she is now successful, she is in a position to give advice. It’s more proof of my theory about Dunham, which is that she’s a very high-functioning, intelligent woman who’s pretending to be screwed up as a career move. Then she throws in a line like the one about almonds and getting laid and, oh my gosh, she’s so shocking! Bleh.

RB - You are an idiot and callous and thoughtless and know nothing about women and people. And you just lost a reader. Because you in your essense are a bully and get off demeaning others for self worth.

Always amusing to read the language used by people who denounce others as bullies.

RB-
Thanks for your reply. And I now more fully understand why you found it all so off-putting. And yes, I agree that the videos are more about her. But it was just promotional bs for her book- I don’t think it was actually meant to be taken very seriously by anyone (including those who submitted the questions).
Question- have you seen Girls? It could be summed up as “pointlessly self-revealing.” But despite that it’s an excellent show - because she is a high-functioning, intelligent woman who also happens to screw up. And the way it’s written in the show is frankly hilarious. Maybe it just resonates more with me because I’m very close to her age, consider myself to be reasonably intelligent, yet I’ve done some astoundingly stupid things.
I’m just about to start reading the book, I’m very curious to see how much space there is between Hannah (her character on Girls) and Lena.

Sarah, I watched the first couple seasons of Girls, and then bailed. I found it entertaining but not ultimately worth the time commitment. Sort of like True Blood…

I always take advice from admitted child molesters….
