Attack of the Killer Deer
Posted on June 23rd, 2014 in Uncategorized | 9 Comments »
As I returned from the gym at 6:30 this morning, this is what I saw on my lawn.
I stopped the car. They didn’t move. I got out. Nothing. I threw a rock that almost hit one. Stillness. I got back in and honked. They raised a mutual eyebrow. I drove the car into the driveway, parked it, and ran screaming onto the lawn.
No joke, I got to within about 15 feet of these critters before they loped off.

Most people would have just said “Oh how pretty.” and went about their day. You are so weird.

Looks like a professionally maintained landscape looked after by exploited Central American laborers.

Anon 1-they are pretty, and for the most part I don’t even care what they eat. (Many suburbanites to to extreme measures to keep the deer out of their vegetable gardens, etc.)
But the lime-disease spreading ticks that they carry are serious business, especially for the father of a two year old who loves to play on/in the grass. (That brown spot between the two deer? That’s where he my little guy spent about an hour running through a sprinkler.)
Anon 2, we have some guys who mow the lawn, which takes about ten minutes (the actual grass area is pretty small). The pachysandra doesn’t require any maintenance. Everything else is done by my wife and me.
Sheesh.

Jeez, isn’t the obvious title for this post “Apparently the Buck Stopped Here Too”?

Lovely lawn, Richard! And agreed re deer and little ones. We have a little boy of similar age and we also have lots of deer and lots of ticks. Interestingly the deer in our parts have been particularly bold lately as well…
