Maybe it’s just me but I think it’s just you.

No, I have to agree with Richard. There’s basically zero serious content these days.

I checked it over 3 times and I think it must be both of you.

I agree that there hasn’t been much in the way of hard-hitting news. The recent follow-up article about the FAS early retirement/lay-offs was boring. Maybe folks in FAS don’t want to rock the boat and risk falling overboard? And did I miss it, or was there anything about Amy Bishop, the story that kept on giving?

How can student suicide at Cornell not be a serious issue? That article caught my eye instantly. Suicide is a tragedy that I believe is another one of those “you are” or “you aren’t” kind of things that I have never been able to grasp. What could be bad enough to make someone intentionally jump into a gorge? Science points to chemical and genetic factors that cause that kind of deep clinical depression which can result in suicide (substance abuse and current treatment aside). How can it not be serious when it could possibly be prevented? Most other depression is caused by major life changes and relieved by major life changes, sometimes over a long period of time. (I could have used some “impending doom” feelings in my life and prevented a lot of doom, big doom and little doom). It’s another “you are” or “you aren’t” kind of thing. You just carry on with project number 1,943 and so on and let the rest of the world go by.

I read the story about the Z-listed students and then read the comments that followed. Certainly room here for a more in-depth approach. It seems as if the reporters are all too willing to take at face value whatever they’re told by administrators.

Oh, I’m glad to hear it’s been boring. Was out for a few days, and saw a small pile to go through, but now I won’t bother.
