News from the Home Front

Apologies for being a haphazard poster the past couple of days. I’ve had a lot going on. At Worth, also known as “the real job,” we’re closing our April/May issue. (It’s going to be great!)
And on the home front…yours truly got engaged last night.
I enjoyed writing that sentence so much that I’ve been staring at it for about five minutes.
My fiancee isn’t a blogger like me, so I won’t go into a lot of details, but her name is Sarah and she’s a dream come true for me. I’m a lucky man.
She’s even supportive of me sharing our engagement with the world on my blog.
I will tell you one funny coincidence: I popped the question in a suite at the Algonquin—we had our first date there—and after some champagne and a lot of phone calls, we went downstairs to hear Eric Comstock and Barbara Fasano in the Oak Room.
And who was there waiting to enjoy the music—which was wonderful—but Cornel West?
Who was, as always, charming and gracious and very kindly sent us two glasses of champagne. Quite sweet of him.
Anyway…before I get too maudlin, I’ll sign off. But when you have news this good, you want to share it. Thanks for listening.

I’m delighted to hear. All best happiness to the two of you!
(But surely it should be: “She’s even supportive of *my* sharing” — generous in either case, but the possessive is what I learned so many years ago.)

Oh yes, lmpaulsen is here. Have been kind of bitchy lately, got deleted a few times. Sorry, all. Have a pretty good idea why I was bitchy now and there’s a good chance it is a rare but hereditary physical condition..just waiting for medical confirmation. I have to have my own blood test done. Just means I’ll have to have a shot in the arm once a month or something like that for the rest of my life and everything will be fine. That’s what happens when you’ve been living alone as long as I have, you tend to blame everything but the kitchen sink for the way you feel and even the sink gets it too until you put two and two together. Richard will have somebody to look after him and take care of him and notice when things aren’t right and don’t make sense and I’m sincerely hoping Sarah does that for him. He deserves that. I’m pretty sure I won’t be invited.

Oh and by the way, personally I have this terrible fear of confetti and wedding bells as applied to myself. Been there, done that. Although I always hope for the best for everybody including Richard, and I really do because my folks had a very happy marriage so I know they happen, you will have to forgive me if I don’t fall all over myself with the congratulations, ever, even for my kids, or anybody. Hard to explain, it’s just something I can’t do. I can get really excited about football though and flowers and music and stuff like that!

Oh Impaulsen. I think you need a hug. (hug) Hang in there. And you aren’t the only person who doesn’t believe in love. I’ve a few nice relationships but more of the relationships who, for example, don’t want to be seen in public with me. You have a few of those you become guarded. Not entirely a bad thing. And btw I enjoy your bitchy comments.! Who cares if you have been deleted? I have been deleted a million times! Richard is tough. He can take it the bitchiness. If he couldn’t, he wouldn’t have a blog.

Congratulations Rich! That is great news

Thanks for the hug, 5:55 PM…I really appreciate it. I’m going to be gone for awhile on some R and R getting some badly needed rest and relaxation and looking after myself. This retirement stuff isn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be. So don’t anybody go “where’s lmpaulsen?” because lmpaulsen is gone until at least Christmas. You may enjoy my bitchiness but I don’t, it’s not acceptable to me.

Feel better soon, Impaulsen. Take care of yourself.

Congratulations Rich.Marriage is sometimes more about finding inner peace between each other than always trying to be happy. Wishing you both the best.
