Oh yeah, a war on Yemen will do it…whose next?

Ah hah! Spelling error…I mean who’s next?

He sounds quite reasonable and he didn’t come close to proposing a war against Yemen. Did you even listen to the link you posted?

Trust me…when Lieberman starts talking this way, defense contractors all across America raise their glasses. It’s deja vu all over again.

That’s funny, I must be getting deaf in my old age or maybe I imagined it but I heard “war on Yemen”.

Impaulsen,
Rich provided the link and it’s only 3+ minutes long. Why don’t you watch it a few times and let us know when you find Lieberman propose a war on Yemen.

“…Yemen will be tomorrow’s war…”

And Yemen will be tomorrow’s war UNLESS we make it today’s war. Hence, war at some point is mandatory.
Puh-lease, don’t try to be cute on this. Lieberman wants “pre-emptive action.” That means war. You don’t do ‘pre-emption’ through diplomatic or law-enforcement means.

SE,
Lieberman specifically says the US is working well with the Yemenese government. The pre-emptive action he is referring to is against Al Qaeda. In other words, Lieberman is clearly saying that the next battleground in our war with Al Qaeda will be in Yemen. That’s hardly a war against Yemen.
Look, you could certainly argue that after Afghanistan and Iraq, the last thing we should do is draw ourselves into a potential quagmire in Yemen. But that’s not what Rich wrote.
“Joe Lieberman blah-blah-blah, proposes war against Yemen.”
Who’s the one being cute here?

We’re not at war against Afghanistan, we’re at war against the Taliban. We’re not at war against Iraq, we’re at war against the insurgents.
Gee, coulda fooled me.

When the US went into Afghanistan and Iraq it was with the express intent of removing the government then in power. That is not what Lieberman is suggesting in Yemen since he clearly says the US is working well with the current regime there. If you want to argue that we should stay the hell out of Yemen because it will turn into another entanglement (or war, if you prefer) that we can’t get ourselves out of be my guest. I’m not really arguing that point. That’s not the argument being made with a post of “Joe Lieberman blah-blah-blah, proposes war against Yemen.” And if that was Rich’s argument, that’s some pretty sloppy writing.

When the US went into Iraq it was with the express intention of uncovering supposedly hidden weapons of mass destruction. The argument about removing “the government then in power” (as puh-lease says in the post above) was a later argument, as is generally known.
I love LMP’s post of 12:38 am. Keep on keeping on, LMP!

Thanks Judith. We were going to uncover hidden weapons of mass destruction and then we were going march out, leaving Saddam Hussein still in power. I forgot about that plan.
