…perhaps it’s worth spending some time thinking about Prince, an MJ contemporary who may be the superior of the two musicians: He’s incredibly prolific—perhaps too prolific—writes all his own words and music, has played all the instruments on several of his albums, has been a huge influence on music and fashion, transcends racial boundaries, is a savvy businessman, plays guitar better than just about anyone else alive—top 3? top 5?—and put on a better Super Bowl halftime show.

Let’s face it: the best-ever halftime show.

And the songs!

(Which you can’t see on YouTube because Prince is all lawyered up.)

….Purple Rain, Controversy, 1999, Little Red Corvette, Let’s Go Crazy, I Would Die 4 U, Let’s Pretend We’re Married, DMSR, Darling Nikki, Delirious, Sign O’ The Times, U Got the Look, Nothing Compares 2 U, Kiss, Hot Thing, I Feel For U, I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man, Sexy M.F, Cream….

(Notice a theme?)

It’s interesting to compare the two figures and think about why one has achieved such worldwide fame and the other is, though famous, far less of a freak show and certainly less popular….

Here’s one video I’ve found…not exactly typical Prince, but still very cool.
