A spoof of that unintentionally hilarious anti-gay marriage ad. Pretty funny.

Just wondering Rich, what is our President’s position on gay marriage? Or are we supposed to just ignore his words because we all know he’s lying for political purposes?

oh, how i long for the honesty of the bush administration.

My point isn’t that the Bush administration was honest (or competent for that matter), but that we find it so easy to pile on a Miss America candidate for saying she doesn’t believe in gay marriage, when her position is no different from that of the President of the United States.

But, puh-leaze, I suspect you put your finger on it in your first comment: Deep down, we think Obama probably does believe in gay marriage, but couldn’t say it because it would become such a vicious fight in the presidential campaign, and exactly the kind of fight that’s a distraction from more immediate crises. (Also, it’s a states’ rights issue, but that’s a separate matter.) So we give him a pass on that.
It may be a mistake, it may be sort of cynical, but it may also be a reasonable thing to do under the circumstances and not particularly a reason for blasting Obama.
Also, I think Miss California is basically anti-gay, so they are really not the same at all.

Or maybe President Obama feels the same as I do. Gay marriage has been legal here in Canada since 2005 and as far as I am concerned it provides equal rights. That’s as it should be. And that has to take precedence over my personal feeling that marriage should be between a man and a woman. I don’t have any problem with my position, I easily live with it and maybe that’s how Obama feels. Maybe he should communicate that so it would be clear for the public. Equal rights is the important issue here, is it not?

Rich,
I haven’t done much research on Miss California. Why do you think she is anti-gay? And why are you sure that Obama’s statements regarding gay marriage are just political posturing?
