Okay, He’s a Lying Scumbag

It’s getting harder and harder to defend John Edwards.
The Times reports:
…Mr. Edwards’s political action committee went to unusual lengths to make a final $14,000 payment to Ms. Hunter’s film company months after its contract with the committee had ended. The payment was issued while the committee was short on cash and could pay its bills only after receiving thousands of dollars from Mr. Edwards’s presidential campaign and donations from four people, including Mr. Baron’s wife.
Furthermore, a woman who helped Ms. Hunter create a Web site on New Age spirituality in 2006 says she regularly corresponded with her about a married North Carolina man named John whom Ms. Hunter was dating in March of that year, if not earlier. Mr. Edwards has said his affair with Ms. Hunter did not begin until after she had started doing video work for his political action committee months later.
It’s such a cliche, but the cover-up is almost always worse than the crime….

Ok, maybe she’s not a scumbag, but Mrs. Edwards is certainly no patriot. Think about it, she finds out about the affair at the point he is deciding to run for Prez. She deliberates long and hard, but finally decides that she will stay with him for the sake of the kids, and — here’s the good part — will facilitate his lies and promote his fabricated morality in front of the American people so that her kids grow up with a good image of their father. No thought about whether John Edwards should think twice about going for the presidency, given the fact/likelihood that someone would find out about it and he might explode the Democrats’ chances. Stay with him if you will, but stay with him and lie about your happy marriage to the American people? Tawdry.

This is why we shouldn’t trust Richard Thomas-god bless him!-on US politics. I remember this time a year ago he was an Edwards man. Can’t understand how a man so bright and sensitive couldn’t see what a phony he is

Hey Richard, at this point, don’t you have to conclude that Edwards still has a better chance of being VP than the Yankees have of making the playoffs? 9.5 back in the division, 6.5 behind Boston for the wildcard, and only sinking further.
I tell you what, if the Yankees make the playoffs, I’ll go on Larry King to admit that I’m the one who knocked up Rielle.

Don’t condescend first anonymous. I was for Kucinich before I was for Edwards. Now I give money to Obama. Nothing to do with personality. I was also against the war and right of that one:

MEiNS- given the lies upon lies that are clearly at work here, how do we know that Elizabeth really knew back in 2006? Perhaps they’re just lying now about her knowing then, if they feel like that makes John look like less of a scumbag. That would mean that she’s implicated now, but in a different way and with different stakes. Given the story Richard links to above, it’s easy for me to imagine that she’s been kept in the dark about a lot of things even to this day.

Sounds like it’s going to get a lot worse for John Edwards if the National Enquirer has anything to say about it.
8/15/2008 4:44 pm
Glad you are coming around, Richard. I saw this coming with Edwards. There’s some indication that Elizabeth had no idea that John wasn’t revealing everything to her as he started his campaign for President. Poor poor woman. Hell of a position she was put in. His selfishness knows no bounds apparently.
8/15/2008 5:08 pm
I’m glad you’re coming around too Richard. Not sure what it is you’re coming around from but whatever it is I’m glad. I just wish I had a nickel for every lying scumbag out there…and poor, poor women…and selfish people. Don’t mind me, it’s Friday…
8/15/2008 6:03 pm
I can’t tell: was that actually lmpaulsen or a parody?
8/15/2008 6:09 pm
Oh shut up anon. Impaulsen is a sweet lady. Lay off.
8/15/2008 6:49 pm
other anon- I’m just worried about her. That post could be read as symptomatic of early-onset dementia. I don’t want to be wandering around this blog and see another one of those “Nice Old Lady Missing” signs. They’re really depressing. I want to make sure she gets the help she needs now, before it’s too late.
8/15/2008 7:00 pm
Your patronizing and condescending tone borders on pathological rudeness. You should be ashamed.
8/15/2008 7:57 pm
Jeez, I make a little remark and you tell me shut up and then you criticize *me* for pathological rudeness? Let me suggest to you that this is not the most effective avenue for correcting my behavior.
How do you think I’m going to respond when you tell me to shut up? If you don’t like what I wrote, say so, but to get all aggressive like this is more likely to provoke me than to shut me down.
In short: you practice diplomacy with all the skill and intelligence of George Bush.
8/15/2008 8:14 pm
You demand polite behavior for rudeness? Think about that a little…
8/15/2008 8:35 pm
Don’t worry about me anonymouses…it was Friday and and I was just having a little fun with y’all…end of the week you know. This little old lady is now having a cold beer and watching football…is that early-onset dementia? I do have a sense of humour you know and I was thinking that if I had a nickel for every lying scum bag and poor, poor lady and selfish person I could buy my own football team. Do you think?
8/15/2008 9:07 pm
Well said, Impaulsen. I hope for your sake that’s Raiders-Titans, not Canadian football. Anonymous Jeez: look back indeed and ask if your ‘little remark’ seems rude, hurtful and the like, even though it caused no hurt. This blog is generally pretty humane, which is why some of us tune in. Provoke you to what btw? More rudeness?
Edwards thing is a sorry business. He’s obviously no better than Gingrich, though I’d still vote for him over McCain.
8/15/2008 10:09 pm
RT, now you’ve gone and done it. Look back indeed and ask if your “little remark” seems rude, hurtful and the like, even though it caused no hurt. If you were as sharp as I think you are, you might have noticed how I spelt “humour”. Do not hope for my sake that I am watching the Raiders-Titans…I am indeed watching Canadian football because…and you heard it here first…I AM CANADIAN. ( Game’s boring. It’s Toronto and Montreal…I’m from Edmonton) It had to come out sooner or later. I’m not a lying scumbag, I’m a Canadian who genuinely likes Americans. I know easily as much or more about your country as… I do my own…maybe more. I am a Yankee fan (Blue Jays are Americans anyway). I wish I could vote for Obama. You’re an arrogant people but generous and have great spirit. I never approved of George Bush or the Iraq war. I support our Canadian troops in Afghanistan and I think that’s where you should have been in the first place. I’ve watched your entire political process this year. I’m genuinely surprised at Edwards…didn’t see that coming although he would never have been my pick, had I had one. You will notice I rarely comment on American matters because although I find them interesting, they are none of my business.
Don’t get me wrong…I love my country. We don’t need no stinkin’ four downs. if you can’t get 10 yards in 3 downs what’s the point. We can get 8 plays in 60 seconds while y’all stand around watching the clock run down. If we had your players and our game, then you would really have a game. We are home here in Canada to quite a few black football players who have stayed and made our country their home after they quit football. There’s a good reason for that.
They are good members of the community…some came from tough beginning in the southern states.
We’ve got a lot of the same problems you have…my daughter is losing her computer graphics job. It’s being outsourced to India. Our economy generally mirrors your economy. You don’t want socialized medicine…can’t fight wars and do that too. You have to wait for awhile here if you need a knee replaced but not a single soul I know that required any cancer treatment or heart surgery or any other life threatening illness in a hurry ever went without care. Not one. I was a single mom, poor, and never had to worry about health care for myself and my children. It has its problems and it’s tough to sustain but you know, it has been damn nice never to have to worry about myself or any member of my family.
Now it’s out. I would have outed myself sooner or later anyhow…dishonesty is something I honestly abhor. I have no college education…wish I had. Richard and all of you have taught me a great deal and I value and admire your knowledge and contributions to this blog. Nobody hurt me today…I can take a shot.
Not sure I won’t get any shots tomorrow. Makes no difference to me…can’t think of any country I’d sooner have for a neighbour (see, we spell funny)…we’ve fought with you in every war except Vietnam and Iraq…no war was ever of our making. God knows if we lived next to the Brits they’d have us driving down the wrong side of the road. I love the people of New York and the heroes of 9/11. I miss the twin towers. I cried for the victims of Katrina. I am well aware of your faults as I am of our own. God bless us everyone,

Hey, Impaulsen, good for you, though I think you took my ‘look back’ as directed at you rather than the to the penultimate Anonymous (the one beginning Jeez). HEY RICHARD, how about timestamps?
You once said you were north of the border I recollect, which is why I mentioned Canadian football after all. Thanks for your story.
8/16/2008 2:18 pm
you are both idio……oops, can’t say that on here. you are both exceedingly tiresome
8/16/2008 2:22 pm
For the record, that most recent anonymous was not me, the anonymous who made the original crack about lmpaulsen.
And to echo the other Richard: I CAN HAZ TIMESTAMPS NAO?
8/16/2008 3:09 pm
Impaulsen- good for you! a little humility every now and then would suit this blog and all of on well. please continue to keep us grounded.
8/16/2008 6:01 pm
Anonymous for the record, I knew it wasn’t you. And other Anonymous, you can call me an idiot if you like…I expected that. I did go on and on about our countries but there’s so much to say…good and not so good. Still I take exception to your calling RT an idiot. Have never known him to be one. And we can all sometimes be exceedingly tiresome, but especially those who have absolutely nothing positive to contribute except to say that someone else is an idiot and exceedingly tiresome.
Thanks Annon…I usually prefer to stay quiet….have a good weekend, all.

My niece was going to have a chance for a college scholarship through a program founded and supported by John Edwards. Now I read that he has pulled the plug on the program (see below). I guess he only cared about it when it might earn him political support. Does he have any redeeming features? It seems to me that rich liberals are usually phonies. He is a case in point.
“Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards is pulling the plug on a scholarship program he started at an Eastern North Carolina high school — a program he once promised would be a model for the nation under an Edwards presidency.”
8/16/2008 7:41 pm
Most recent Anonymous, I think the reporting of that story is a little unfair. That program was always meant to be a three-year pilot, a model program of limited duration to showcase the kind of program Edwards thought the federal government should adopt. Edwards didn’t just decide to pull the plug now, though the timing is certainly unfortunate.
8/16/2008 8:30 pm
I love Impaulsen. She’s lovely.
8/18/2008 12:46 am
i think lmpaulsen is Standing Eagle’s doppelganger….or is it vice versa?
8/18/2008 11:21 am
facinating how the Remark column often gets way off the topic target
8/18/2008 12:56 pm
But it makes sense. Verbal conversations are much like that as well.
8/18/2008 3:25 pm
“the Remark column”? Do you mean comments on the blog? Oy.
