Rockies in a Hard Place

They’re down, 2-0, having lost a slugfest and a pitching duel. Will the thin air of Coors Field help them? Will David Ortiz playing first base help them? Will the collective will of millions upon millions who agree that the Red Sox are the new evil empire help them? (Let us not forget that the Red Sox resurgence has coincided with the presidency of George W. Bush.)
Go Rockies!
(If only to make this a more interesting World Series….)

Apropos of nothing at all & certainly not the Series - but just when you think there’s no headline that can surprise you anymore there’s this in today’s Guardian:
“Jail for ex-soldier who urinated on dying disabled woman”
No link to the story since it’s too terrible to continue with. Although it does have the first use I’ve seen of the term “phone-filmer”

You’d start Ortiz over Youuuukilis at first?
Not me. Split time at least. With “Youk” you get better playoff batting average (both good, of course), way better speed, way better glove. Maybe put Ortiz in later for power if the game unfolds a certain way. If Lowell wasn’t doing well and Manny wasn’t doing unbelievable, I might think differently.

No, no-I’m saying that Ortiz at first could hurt the Sox….

Egret: you can always switch in Youk later on for defensive purposes if the game is close, but you can’t do that with Papi, obviously. In other words, you can start Papi and still make sure Youk gets 2+ ABs but you can’t do vice versa. So, to that extent, that move makes sense. And my guess is Papi sits and Youk plays tomorrow regardless.
