Red Sox Fans, Rejoice

Your team thumped the Yankees again this weekend, taking two of three and continuing to look awesome.
The Yankees have used at least five pitchers in ten straight games, which appears to be a record of pitching ineptitude unequaled in the history of baseball. What the team wouldn’t do for John Wetteland now….or, for that matter, Roger Clemens?
There is even talk that George Steinbrenner will fire Joe Torre, which is bizarre on so many levels, not the least of which is that Steinbrenner’s brain is supposedly turning into mashed potatoes, so how does he even know what’s going on?
More seriously, how could you even think about firing a manager for the Yankees’ current dilemma? Torre has had three hurt startersâMike Mussina, Chien Ming-Wang, and Carl “Even My Girlfriend Thinks I’m a Wimp” Pavano. His ace reliever has an ERA around 10, and his set-up guys aren’t doing much better. HIs hitters are also flailing. Bobby Abreu can’t buy a hit, Hideki Matsui is ice-cold, Robinson Cano isn’t hitting well, Johnny Damon is at .240-something, and even A-Rod has dropped off a bit.
So, let’s see: no pitching, not much hitting. Definitely must be the manager’s fault.
As for the Sox, they look very impressive…if their pitching can sustain its current level, and they can stay healthy, they’re going to be tough to beat.

Senile dementia is not a fit subject for humor.

I’m of the school that says everything is subject for humor. (Well, almost everything.)
In fact, if you’ve ever known anyone who’s gone senile, sometimes a little humor keeps you from losing it altogether.

George Steinbrenner is always a subject fit for humor.

Pardon me if I fail to shed a tear for the Yankees. They will undoubtedly turn things around, but it is a pleasure to see them in last place, I must say.

Really? Not me. It’s bad for baseball, which is always better off when both the Yanks and the Red Sox are doing well. The Evil Empire thing doesn’t really fly anymore, particularly not from a Red Sox fan. ($100m for five years of Dice K.)
And since the Red Sox have won the World Series more recently than the Yankees, you can’t really play the woe-is-me card anymore.
So…get over the martyrdom! These last six games really weren’t good baseball…..

I’m actually not a Red Sox fan. But their payroll is less than the Yankees. In any case, it’s not about the payroll. It’s about the arrogance, the attitude of go out and buy the best team money can buy. That is bad for baseball. Seeing the Devil Rays or Blue Jays or the Orioles beat the Yankees is good for baseball.
I’m so sick of being told that the only games or rivalry that matters in baseball is the Yankees/Red Sox. Get over it. Enjoy the game for once. Enjoy the Brewers finally get their act together. Or the A’s continue to do well after losing yet another great player to free agency. Or the Braves turn things around. Or the Mets, who are now a far more interesting team than the Yankees.

Sorry, but I’m going to be more vigorous about this from now on; I’m going to delete these random posts that cast some rhetorical aspersion on Harvard but don’t actually say anything. Particularly if they have nothing to do with the thread at hand.

Thank you for that Richard! It’s like the crazy person who asks frequent nonsensical questions in a class; you really judge the instructor by how well they deal with that, and get the discussion moving on.
Go Sox! Still, like any Red Sox fan, I see the seeds of their Sept. demise already… but my 8 year old is happy — first place April is as good as September in some worlds.

Looking forward to your calling folks with MS “spaz” and morbidly obese folks “fatso,” Mr. Everything is Subject for Humor.

7:31 PM, it is obvious you have no clue what humor even means…what you’re suggesting is hate, not humor…that might be your style but it’s not Richard’s.
