Adventures in Crimson-Land

I was up in Cambridge the past couple of days, doing some reporting for a piece on Derek Bok. (If you have thoughts on President Bok that you’d like to share, feel free to contact me.) The campus looked terrific, and Harvard Square is always fun. (But can’t you get a liquor store there?)
Some impressions:
1) My God, you people must be sick of Kerry Healey and Duval Patrickâwhat a dreary race.
2) Did you know that the Charles Hotel costs $500 a night? What does Cambridge think it is, Manhattan?
3) I’m all for the idea of Jack Welch and Joe O’Donnell buying the Globe. Because, right now, it sucks. USA Today has more content than the Globe. And the Arts/Living sectionâargh. The writing is just so, so wrong.
4) Boston.com is a terrible website. I saw an ad urging people to make it their home page. Why on earth would anyone do that?

Hey now, Harlem boy. Steppin’ on toes. All of these things may ring true, but you don’t get to tell me my sister is ugly. Join the family first.

Well, I did live there for six years…

1. it’s Deval not Duval.
2. it appears that you know less about how to win an election in the Boston area than to write about it-they’re dreary for a reason-why attract attention - you only lose votes that way. haven’t you seen Healey in free fall b/c of negative ads…..
3. its $500 b/c people pay it
4.as for Jack and Jack and Joe-anything could be better than the ny times
5. again, ny times - what do they know about boston. perhaps the Taylor’s should have pushed harder to sell it to the Post. if they do get it then the Herald would have conservative competition which is not a bad thing or a good thing. who knows, maybe the writing would improve.(no crimson staffers allowed, though)

1) Would you believe it was a test to see if you were paying attention?
2) I wasn’t commenting on whether the ads were effective, just that they’re dreary.
4, 5) We are pretty much in agreement.

good try! no you weren’t.
as for the ads-they’re “dreary” b/c of the nasty approach the republicans have taken for the last 20 years.
i, for one, would have liked the ads produced by monty python’s flying circus or eddie izzard…like the “r’s” would now what to do with that.

Me, I thought you were saying “dreary” because both of the major candidates are so g.d. lame. And letting that rainbow/green twit take part in events is crap. Can she just go play in traffic? And I’d say Mihos had the charisma of a used-car salesman if I didn’t think that was too flattering.

For liquor I recommend C’est Bon Convenience, next to the CVS just down Mass Ave, for your next visit.
Yes, The Charles Hotel is Manhattan.
