Ann Coulter Walks Off Hannity & Colmes
I’m not sure what’s the most interesting part of this video: the fact that Ann Coulter says that catching Osama Bin Laden is “irrelevant” and “things are going swimmingly” in Afghanistan; the fact that she seems lost and defensive in the interview; the fact that Sean Hannity lets her twist in the wind; or the fact that she actually appears to walk off the set. As always with Ann, it’s great TV…but for her, this time, it’s also ominous TV. Is the tide turning against her at last?

Much as I would like to agree with you, I actually have a totally different take. The other blonde on there was completely overbearing — and inappropriately so for someone who is supposed to be a host (right?). The minute Coulter started to answer she interrupted and went on a rant. I thought Coulter reacted in a perfectly respectable way. More to the point, this clip illustrates everything that’s wrong with soundbite journalism and soundbite policymaking. Not one of the people on there could resist sarcasm and rhetorical cheap tricks. They sound like a bunch of chipmunks disputing over their nuts. It was sort of funny, though, hearing Coulter go, “Sean? Sean?”

You’re completely right about the culture of such talk shows and the other woman’s attempt to out-Coulter Coulter. But usually Ann would fire back much more vigorously; she looked surprised that a host would not allow her to run rampant. Almost as if she were not being paid the proper amount of deference…when it seems to me that by the rules of that particular game, Coulter should just shout right back at her.

This is sad TV for all involved. Its also sad that we’re talking about it, as if handicapping a cockfight. Shall we peck Ann Coulter’s eyes out now that she’s down? Isn’t this exactly what Jon Stewart so rightly railed about when he appeared on Point/Counterpoint (or whatever the hell it was called)?
All I can say is, “Jane, you ignorant slut…..”

The ultimate irony is that this happened on FOX NEWS, which more than anyone, has sought to both encourage and legitimize “soundbyte journalism.”
