Some students at Nova Southeastern University aren’t happy about the choice of Salman Rushdie as Commencement speakerâthey’re Muslim, he wrote The Satanic Verses, this should be interestingâand Stanley Fish thinks they have it exactly right.
Fish writes in his blog, “When youâre the proud parent of a graduating son or daughter, the last thing you want to hear is something that will make you think. You want to hear something that will make you feel good.”
I don’t agree with the argument, but I do agree that Salman Rushdie doesn’t make you feel good. Perhaps Fish would prefer his wife, Padma Lakshmi?
