A Red Sox Heads to the Bronx

I’ll admit, the thought of Johnny Damon in pinstripes is going to take some getting used to…but for the Yankees, it’s an excellent move. One, it puts the Red Sox in a jamâthere just aren’t many good centerfielders left to sign, and it’s psychologically devastating to the team. (Imagine if Jorge Posada signed with the BoSox.) And two, it helps the Yankees considerably. Let’s face it: Bubba Crosby just wasn’t the man to play center every day. In Damon, you have a guy who hits over .300 and wreaks havoc on the basepaths. Plus, he allows Derek Jeter to hit second, where he’s probably a bigger offensive threat.
It’s weird, thoughâyou now have on the Yankees the guy who crushed them in that ghastly Game Seven of the 2004 ALCS.
Well, if you can’t beat him, sign him.
Which gives the Yankees a lineup something like this: Damon, Jeter, A-Rod, Sheffield, Matsui, Giambi, Posada, Robinson Cano, Andy Phillips.
Wow. That’s going to be tough to beat.

None of this matters if we don’t have a pitching staff that’s worth a damn. Damon’s also got a bad arm. There was a reason the Red Sox didn’t rush to sign him the way they did Varitek and Ortiz. Rumor has it Manny is now looking forward to stayng in Boston, which means we just gained a showboat with an ego the size of our beloved city.
Also, I am more than a little worried we just signed a 2 year player to really expensive four year deal. He played injured quite a bit this season, and he spent a lot of time in the dugout, if I remember clearly.
Do you have any Boston contacts through your Harvard circle that can confirm or deny that Theo Epstein is reconsidering his resignation? That would just stink. I was enjoying the Red Sox having a crippled front office.

Damon does have a bad arm, it’s true. (“He throws like a girl,” according to a Red Sox fan I know.) But then, Bernie’s arm wasn’t exactly a cannon. Nor was Mickey Rivers’.
As for pitching, I’m pretty happy with where the Yankees are: Pavano and Wright will be healthy, Wang could be great, Mussina should win 15, Chacon could win 15, and Johnson may have one more good year left in him.
As for Theo…the Boston papers are buzzing with rumors that Theo will come back. The Sox sure seem to need him….

We overpaid for a guy with post concussion syndrome and a blown shoulder. The Red Sox knew what they were doing letting him go, making him look like the enemy to their fans. He wasn’t worth the 40million for four years they offered him in Boston.
52million for a lead-off hitter/center-fielder who is past his prime. . . Let’s just hope we get one good season out of him. That shoulder sounds like it’s going to be a big problem.
I read that he left his wife and kids for a stripper. Can’t say I’ll be cheering for him come spring, Yankee or not. Scum is scum whether in Red Sox or pinstripes.

left his wife/kids for a stripper? so what, she probably understands him in a way they never could.
but boy is that guy dumb - anyone listen to his press conference? (or is the concussion effects?)
