No More Echinachea

Like clockwork, every winter I get laid out with a nasty cold, and like clockwork, all my earthy, Brooklyn-based friends inform me that, although I should have taken echinacea the second I felt a twinge of illness coming on, it’s not too late. I know they mean well, but it’s kind of annoying. So imagine my delightâimmature, I know, but still delightâto discover that I haven’t missed a thing, and echinacea is nothing more than snake oil….

Have you ever wondered, why “snake oil”? Why not “possum oil” or “squirrel oil” or “trout oil”?
And how does one get oil from a snake? Are there snake juicers for sale at the Vermont Country Store? Makes you wonder, eh?

Well, it’s true. Brooklyn and echinacea go together like birkenstocks and white socks…

I absolutely swear by echinacea! Works for me every time - and I now take mega doses to avoid full onset of a cold. Why am I a believer? Because when I first tried it, I felt better, but thought to myself…”well, I’m better so it must not have been a cold coming on, just allergies or something”…or another time ..”Well I had cold, but I’m cured now and it only lasted two days because my immune system’s so strong” In both instances I stopped taking the echinacea because I was “cured”. And what happened? They symptoms can smashing back! Reintroduced the echinacea and back to feeling good again. Hallelujah! LOL
