When the Internets are buzzing over the fact that Dvid Ortiz used a homophobic slur—”little bitch”—to refer to another player…when a Google search finds that it’s a widely discussed baseball happening…and the Boston Globe won’t even report that Ortiz said it. Makes the Globe look small-town…
Deee-licious. Hopped up on steroids probably legitimate anger, David Ortiz uses a homophobic slur to describe Tampa Rays pitcher David Price, who hit him in the back with a 94 mile-an-hour fastball.
Here’s some bad journalism for you: ESPN only uses the part where Ortiz calls Price “little girl,” while the Globe doesn’t use either; the paper’s Peter Abraham refers only to “a steroid-fueled rage rant that was at times profane.” That is pathetic, Globe. Boston’s star player calls someone “a little bitch” and you don’t print that?
Twitter reactions were harsh on Ortiz, except for the defense of Masshole Sox fans; here’s the most important comment.
And why didn’t one Boston sportswriter bother to point out to Ortiz that his comments were misogynist crap?
The thing is, I’d be sympathetic to Ortiz if he hadn’t been such a jerk about it. If you claim in public that you’ve settled your differences with a player, as Price did, you can’t then turn around and drill him in the back with a fastball.
Now, if Price hadn’t claimed that they had settled their differences, I would have totally supported him hitting Ortiz for showboating after hitting a home run off Ortiz in last year’s playoffs.
I mean…it’s not like Ortiz can take full credit. steroids
David Ortiz can clearly be a charming and affable guy. But between his debasement of the White House earlier this year and now this, he’s also showing a less attractive side.
