  She's Gone
Geraldine Ferraro, one half of a presidential ticket all good Dems would love to forget, has resigned from the Clinton campaign after alleging that race is the basis of Barack Obama's support.

On Wednesday a close ally of Mrs. Clinton, Geraldine A. Ferraro, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee in 1984 who was on the Clinton finance committee, resigned from the campaign after being criticized by Mr. Obama’s advisers, among others, for her recent comments that “if Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position” as a leading presidential contender.

The thing is, Ferraro wasn't necessarily wrong. After all, if she hadn't been a woman, she wouldn't have been a vice-presidential contender. (She certainly didn't get there on the merits.)

Similarly, if Hillary wasn't a woman, she wouldn't be getting so many votes from women.

But the Clinton campaign has been repeatedly introducing the race card in odd and worrisome ways into this primary battle, and the fact is they just don't have any credibility on the matter any more. Things have reached the point where you can not give Hillary and her attack dogs the benefit of the doubt whenever they speak on race.....

Geraldine Ferraro is a fool. But Rich, you have to post this from Der Spiegel (http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/0,1518,540459,00.html)

about the crime (in Germany) of calling yourself "Dr" with only an American (or non-European) Ph.D. Should the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences convene in Germany for one of their Tuesday meetings, there could be mass arrests, prosecutions and one-year prison sentences. It would be bloody!

Professors in the US don't call themselves Doctor. I thought we covered this.

Well, SE, here's one (in the article) who did--because he lives in Germany, and when in Germany, as we all know, do as the Germans do. You said yourself, in those same posts, that in the Federal Republic you'd be known as Herr Professor Doktor Adler (stehende). This may be the civil rights issue of the era, and you should be at the forefront (or however it is eagles line up).

Well, luckily I have a German doctorate (technically, the degree is abbreviated "Dr. Phil.," but the title used is indeed "Dr"). One condition I had to fulfill to get the degree was a statement from the police in my town of residence in America declaring that I was not a criminal. The police department in Amherst, MA, where I was living at the time, had a good laugh about this, and were kind enough not to report that I had received a speeding ticket a couple of years earlier. Eagle, when not standing, might receive a speeding ticket too.

By the way, that's another syggestion for your web guru. Make sure when readers cut & paste links, they're not cut off!

i love you
