  You Heard It Here First
The Boston-New York Role Reversal
—Shots in the Dark, July 31

Trading Places: Red Sox Have Become the Yankees
—New York Times, August 5

The always terrific Murray Chass writes:

By acquiring Eric Gagne last week, the Red Sox forfeited their right to criticize or whine about the Yankees...the team their chief executive once called the Evil Empire.

Comments:
The fact that you put "Murray Chass" and "always terrific" next to each other is definitive evidence that you have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to baseball.

For more on the stupidity of that article and Chass generally, see here, here, and here.

Unless, of course, you were being tongue-in-cheek?

Zing!

Jk, Rich. I'm no fan of Murray Chass but enjoy your writing on baseball. Looking forward to something from you when 756* arrives.

No, I think Chass is a good baseball writer. But I'll check out your links.

First link: Wildly unconvincing. Apparently Chass took a different angle than the poster wanted.

All due respect to Seth Mnookin, but Chass knows more about baseball than SM ever will.

Now, I will admit that Chass isn't working as hard as he used to, and some of his current columns may reflect that. But the guy knows a enormous amount about baseball.

Will you at least retract the "always terrific" epithet? We would even accept "formerly terrific."

Not sure if you read the FireJoeMorgan.com link, but they do a great job on the article wherein Chass admits, "I had no idea what VORP meant and didn’t care enough to go to any great lengths to find out," which is just an insane thing for a professional baseball writer to say. Baseball Prospectus had a nice response here.

Gotta side with anonymous here. Chass has seen better days.

Okay, I'll grant you that—better days. I was probably too strong in writing "always terrific."
