  Will Yale Get Bigger?
Yale president Rick Levin is considering adding some 200 students a year to Yale's freshman classes, Bloomberg's Brian Sullivan reports.

``The principal reason for moving up is that we are turning down so many great kids,'' Levin said. ``The applicant pool is so much larger, and selectivity is so much greater.''

... Harvard isn't considering adding undergraduates, spokesman Robert Mitchell said.

But that's not really true, is it? Isn't boosting undergraduates one option of the Allston plan?

Comments:
Back when Larry used to bring his dog and pony show to the House Dining Halls, he suggested that Allston expansion was designed to increase the undergraduate population, and in particular to up the number of international students. To insure Harvard became a true "global university."

But that would entail more than three houses in Allston, if they convert the Quad into a Princeton-style graduate housing area.

the pitch to the government and Boston audience and alums focused on space living space for professional schools-not undergrads.

moving undergrads across the river will cost the university alot of money in terms of tribute to Boston.

what till the new master plan comes out and we'll see what is on tap.

Increasing the number of undergraduate students isn't just a question of increasing student housing. Surely, it also means hiring new faculty, expanding classroom and lab facilities, and so on.
