The End of the Steinbrenner Era
Are the Yankees selling the YES network, which broadcasts their games and other sports-related content?

According to Fortune, the answer is YES. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

This is a very curious move, as the network is what really pulls in the revenue for the team, and without it, it'd be much harder for the Yankees to pay the salaries they do. Which raises the question, of course, of whether the team itself is up for sale......

If I were a Red Sox fan, I think I'd be enjoying this.

Yo could do one on this:

If I were a Red Sox fan I'd be a complete jerk.

true dat

Meanwhile, anyone notice how awful CLemons is? It looks like he may have finally gone off the steroids (or they stopped working)

Are you aware of the efforts at Harvard to be environmentally friendly?

The law school just replaced the urinals with waterless models that save thousands of gallon per year per urinal.

Maybe other schools should follow suit.

Has anyone considered initiating a new trend? urinating behind the bushes and trees in the many courtyards at Harvard. It would help the plants and save even more water.

the waterless urinals at the Law School may be OK, but, can they beat the paperless toilets at the School of Design?

how about the waterless waterfountains in Lamont?

Or, the 2-way flushing toilets in CGIS (which, btw, immediately become absolutely disguesting because they don't work). Or the high-efficiency hand-dryers that are supposed to make paper towels obsolete, but that no one uses because they are scary loud and feel like they're blowing the skin off your hands.

My guess: those hawking "environmentally-friendly technologies" have discovered that they can play Harvard. Lots of $ in the budget, lack of centralized oversight, competition among the schools, centers, and individual buildings. Can anyone say bleed this sucker until it's dry? And those of us now using these technologies are of course not aware of the price paid to install them, and get to feel morally superior to those who don't have the cool gadgets. What a scam.

wtf???

Has anyone considered providing every student and faculty with portable urinals, for use in their cubicles or offices, and installing centralized collectors of the waste in each building. The product could probably be commercialized as fertilizer...

what's a two way flusing toilet? they flush one direction one time and in reverse next?

air conditioners are a real drain in Harvard resources. Why can't people lighten up on their clothing in the summer and use paper fans?

Oh yes, faculty meetings in underwear in the summer, and faculty carrying around and sitting on hot water bags in the winter to cut down heating bills.

I like the idea of selling the stuff! how about branding it 'Veritable Micronutrients' or 'Growing Crimson'

Much better use of the stuff than keeping Johnny's left boot shinny.

I can just imagine the ads...

"Getting dirty! the real Harvard stuff. Organic academic compounds that really promote growth."

or

"Naturally Harvard! Nitrogenic Crimson"

or

"Harvard gives back! Helping the Earth while relieving yourself"

Who would be a good spokesperson for the campaign? Al Gore perhaps?

Who knows, the thousands of tourists that trail the Yard each year, and perhaps an occasional visitor from New Haven, might buy lots of the stuff. WAnd wo knows that they might do with it. Just like the rub Johnny's boot with fervor!

I was going to say that it's unfair to cast all New Englanders (Red Sox fans?) as jerks, then I read the string from Harvard (Red Sox fans?) complaining about water saving devices, etc., and realized they are a bunch of jerks.

"air conditioners are a real drain in Harvard resources. Why can't people lighten up on their clothing in the summer and use paper fans?"

Are you kidding? I am living in the dorms this summer, and it is miserable. I have two fans running full blast all day in a small room and still it is a furnace. Air conditioners would definitely be a better investment for Harvard than water saving toilets. Last I checked the world has lots of water.

All these comments just burned a half barrel of oil. You should all be ashamed of yourselves for allowing such inanity to contribute to global warming.

Very well put, 9:15. The philosophy of going green at any cost is becoming a Harvard epidemic. And like the situation with ethanol production, we should be mindful of hidden energy expenditures.

How did "The End of the Steinbrenner Era" evolve into a discussion of toilets? Are there no Sox fans among you?
