The Conservatives Want Him, Um, Out
The Wall Street Journal has called for Larry Craig's resignation.
Senator Craig was elected by the people of Idaho, and it is properly a matter between them and him whether he should finish his term. We agree, however, with those in his party who want the Senator to forgo re-election next year. The Republican Party needs to get its house in order. It is a mess. And that cleanup should include the living room, the library, the front porch and, we daresay, the restroom.

Last night the guy who runs Daily Kos was on the Stephen Colbert report. Colbert is so good at making substantive points within the framework of silliness. Why aren't you on that show? Wanna know why? I'll tell you why. Because you periodically slither and slide down into the muck, into the dirt, into the mucky, dirty world of gossip and smut, like this story on Larry Craig. Or the one on that Jeffrey Eptstein guy. Or Anna Nicole Smith. You can't stay with the high road, you can't stick to policy contributions. 10:33, I'm not concerned with your sexual preference...but I do recall that Richard originally promised this blog was going to be all about academia, politics, the media, pop culture, among other things...and quite frankly that's how a lot of us like it. Nobody ever said it was going to be all about "policy contributions".

Cheap shot 10:33! The whole world is making fun of Larry Craig right now and rightly so. If a senator chooses to attempt to drop his pants in public and gets caught, I think a few potshots is to be expected. I am sorry Senator Craig chose to do this instead of being comfortable with being gay, but Richard is by far not "a bad bad boy". (So weird!) He's a journalist, with a good sense of propriety and a good sense of humor. Maybe you should get one, too.

Of course I remember that. I JUST read it. Who could forget it? However, it's the tone and the application of the phrase in this context that I think is weird. Mostly majorly the tone! It was quite creepy. The first time I read it I thought it was as well. Didn't change the second time around.
