  Quote of the Day
“For years, while foreign competitors were investing in more fuel-efficient technology for their vehicles, American automakers were spending their time investing in bigger, faster cars. And whenever an attempt was made to raise our fuel efficiency standards, the auto companies would lobby furiously against it, spending millions to prevent the very reform that could’ve saved their industry.”

—Barack Obama, speaking to the Economic Club of Detroit

Can you imagine Hillary Clinton having the guts to give that speech in the lion's den? I'm not sure I can.

Comments:
Well, she's not a smoker so she lacks certain personality flaws.

Ok, my above comment was neither here nor there, but now you are just ticking me off.

But kudos to Obama.

Did that really take guts? Everyone and their brother is criticizing Detroit for being behind in developing fuel efficient vehicles. Saying so at the Economic Club (which is filled with people who would agree with Obama) is hardly an act of political courage. This is repeating conventional wisdom, not taking a gutsy stand.

But I have to give Obama credit. He gets to say something that is not that brave or daring, but the press and journalists who subscribe to the CW praise him for being brave and daring. Smart on his part.
