  Even Europe Blogs Before Harvard
Three European professors have created a blog intended as a "sounding board for professors who believe they have been bullied, ganged up against, or otherwise pushed out of their jobs," according to the Chronicle of Higher Education.

And still...outside the econ department...not a single FAS blog.

Comments:
If I'm not mistaken, there are over 1,000 faculty in the Arts & Sciences at Harvard, at least according to the most recent edition of the Harvard Fact Book. Understanding this, I would suggest that there are probably some faculty within FAS and outside of the Economics Department who do maintain blogs, even if they're not readily identifiable or immediately accessible. I think this is a more reasonable assumption than the suggestion that, outside of a few faculty in the Economics Department, no FAS faculty maintain blogs.

That being said, I'm curious to hear the agruments of anonymous faculty who post in this forum as to their opinion of blogs (especially in higher education), speaking to the strengths and weaknesses of their overall utility, or perhaps putting forth reasons why, in particular, members of the Harvard faculty are reticent to blog more actively, let alone in a public forum.

You're right that there really aren't many blogs, but why overstate your case? We've pointed out many times in the comments other blogs. Lubos Motl's in the physics department (FAS), for example. Can't say I like or recommend it! His blog is conservative and in its polemical mode a little juvenile for my taste, it can (understandably) be physics heavy, and often comments on things Czech. But he's been blogging almost daily for years! (http://motls.blogspot.com/)

You're right—there are a handful of FAS blogs.

Still, I keep writing about this because I find it so bizarre, and I can't quite explain Harvard's odd tardiness in this area.
