I agree. It is hilarious. The original video is hilarious too, which is why it was emailed to the entire economics profession last spring. John Campbell merely appears foolish, but Ed Glaeser is socially deficient.
I agree--absolutely hilarious. The original is an excellent device to drive away any potential student with a brain in their head. Do I want to be like these guys, they will hopefully ask themselves? Nahhhhh..............
Then again, economists can gravitate toward that so-uncool-it's-cool humor, even if the rest of us see it as squarely uncool, uncool. So this might be just fine for recruitment, successful even.
No doubt many candidates will be attracted by the high interest in the department in the study of corruption in developing countries and transitional societies.
Shleifer --a good friend and co-author of Glaeser and one of the most acclaimed scholars by his peers in the profession-- could lead a practicum on the subject.
Maybe at a later date the Department will focus on the study of Effective University Leadership. Professor Summers could teach this seminar, since he was widely acclaimed by the Department while he was President.
