  More on "Who Needs Harvard?"

When I first posted about Time's story, "Who Needs Harvard?", I wrote that I doubted it would have any impact on the university's reputation. I didn't know at the time that it was the magazine's cover....and on CNN.com, the link to the story reads, "Smart students looking beyond Harvard."

Which makes me think that I may have been wrong, and this isn't such a great piece for the university....

Comments:
Everyone likes to bring down the big guy. Can't they leave us alone and find someone else to pick on to sell their pseudo-news-magazine?

Wouldn't sell many magazines with "Who Needs Brown?", would they.

I suspect this will be one of the lowest-selling newsstand covers for Time this year.

And wouldn't we all rather see Baby Suri instead?

Agreed.

I think Henny Penny might worry about this article. But the real title is the subtitle, and the message behind that is a good one to get out to prospective college applicants. Students who are admitted from the borderline sometimes do well, but others have quite a struggle to stay afloat at an Ivy League. The magazine will sell to parents of high school juniors and seniors, and they're the ones who need to hear this message. I don't see that it can harm Harvard.

Only Harvard can harm Harvard...and Harvard is doing a good job of it by looking the other way in the scandals of plagiarism, admittance to the Business School, and all those other directly attributable to Larry Summers, of course.
