Our Frat Boy President

Whether he's addressing his British counterpart with the cheery phrase, "Yo, Blair," or giving an impromptu squeeze to Angela Merkel, our president just can't seem to grow up. Hard to believe that we have to live with this man for another two and a half years. (Don't you have the feeling that it's going to get worse before it gets better?)Which makes me think that the perceived maturity of the person who replaces Bush is going to be a huge factor in the 2008 race.... The world has shown itself to be a pretty tough and complicated place, not the sandbox the Bushies thought they could play in. I never thought I'd say this—he was such a dreary candidate!—but Al Gore is looking better and better....

Comments:
Do you really have a problem with what Bush did here? Or do you just like linking to YouTube?

Both, actually. Though it's not actually linking to YouTube; it's incorporating YouTube videos into the blog. I draw the distinction because it's a terrific tool that YouTube has; you actually post the video to your blog from the YouTube site. Not quite sure how it works, but I think it has a lot to do with YouTube's success.

More importantly, Merkel doesn't look as if she's having a good time. Would he have done it to Putin?

No, he would have kissed Putin's belly.

It is indeed a bad sign when we start wishing we'd gone with the coward over the simpleton. Let's hope 2008 offers more than a choice between idiots.

To Anon 8:46 - your query seems aimed at the idea that reporting on the personal life, quirks, etc. of a public figure is of far less importance than reporting on their policy positions and predilections. Annoying as Maureen Dowd and her ilk can be, it is important to see public figures as they really are, especially these days when they are so heavily managed by spin-meisters, etc. Figuring out whether Bush is truly a dummy -- or just plays one on TV -- is not an idle exercise. We need to see all aspects of the man to judge his public actions.

To Anon 11:21 - the last election was a choice between a "coward and a simpleton"? How so? Are you equating liberal, which John Kerry certainly was, with coward? Are you one of the Swift-boaters? Are you a chicken hawk -- the kind of guy who's all for gung ho global stormtrooping, as long as he doesn't have to actually get his own boots on the ground? Or are you just a simpleton?

I took anon 11:21 to mean coward on voting to let Bush invade Iraq. If so, I agree, if not, I'm with anon 2:18.

You know, it might be easier if you anonymous folks—especially those who post regularly—gave yourselves nicknames, so that there aren't all these references to anon 4:18 and so on. It sounds like you're quoting the Bible.

I dunno...Howard Dean is looking good now.
