Mmm-hmmm—Definitely in the Eye of the Beholder
Need proof that Washington is a sexist city? Then check out Roll Call newspaper's list of the 50 Most Beautiful People in Washington.

(And no, that's not an oxymoron. Washington has its share of hotties. They just happen to come from somewhere else.)

Take, for example, #47, Staci Meirs, a lobbyist (they call it "congressional liason") for the National Education Association.

Pretty attractive, right?

Compare that to New York congressman John McHugh, who comes in at #32.

What's wrong with this picture?

Let's try again. Here's #29, Majida Mourad, formerly a congressional aide, now...a lobbyist. (They call her a vice-president at the Abraham Group.)

Works for me.

But wait...five notches above her, at #24, there's House Majority Leader John Boehner, Republican of Ohio:

Huh.

There are lots of things to like about Washington, but sometimes....

Comments:
Perchance is the editor an older gay man? That might explain this. Or maybe it can be chalked up to plain human error -- i.e., a Boehner.

Is it me or is it like 3 to 1 in favor of Republicans? They should do everything possible to work some of these beauties into their fall campaigns.

Lots of big hair among the women and some deeply unfashionable clothes. From my observation, DC is the kind of place Barbara Dole is (in her younger years) considered a hot babe. I must say, though, that # 1 is hot by any measure.

I don't know. DC surfeits on power, and power feeds on sex. Elizabeth Dole and Barbara Bush aren't the sort that spring to mind. I speak, oh brothers, of the sexy schedulers.

is it just me or is this eerily reminiscent of a high school yearbook?

It's just you. Nah, I'm joking. Of course it is. But then, when you get right down to it, life itself is a lot like high school.
