  Thought for the Day
In a review of two novels about Upper East Side kids and their schools, Michiko Kakutani writes....

The head of the school refers to students as "customers" and seems intent on increasing "customer satisfaction." The school's cafeteria is a food court that includes sushi and a pizza oven; the school's deans cheerfully accept a host of excuses for plagiarism and cheating. "Leniency," John observes, "was in keeping with the philosophy of the school — let no revenue stream be interrupted."

Remember, she's talking about New York.

Comments:
As a somewhat pissed-off Horace Mann alumnus, I have to say that the cafeteria sushi was disgusting and no one ate it, and the food is not nearly enough as Tries made it out to be. Furthermore, the school has in a few instances that I am aware of told colleges about well-to-do students cheating during their seniors years. Tries' book is trashy, incorrect, and a lousy satire of a place that certainly deserves to be made fun of in some respects.
