…why the televisions in both bars I was in tonight were showing college football; the Red Sox win a blowout against the Yanks. Did Josh Beckett just win the Cy Young?
Of greater concern to the Yankees than the loss is the possibility that Jorge Posada, perhaps baseball’s best catcher, got hurt in a collision at home plate….

“Jorge is a little beat up,” said Yankees manager Joe Torre. “He’s got a headache pretty good and it rung his bell pretty well.”
Let’s hope they get a little more technical than that.

I didn’t see it, but it sounded like he really got clocked. To be technical about it.

A clean play, and Posada did well to stay in the game. But when Ellsbury slid around him on a later play, it looked like Posada was still in a daze-he didn’t try to reach to tag the runner at all, even though the runner seems to have missed the plate. Probably wouldn’t have made any difference in the game as the ump called Ellsbury safe on a phantom contact of his spikes with home plate, before he wheeled around and actually did touch the plate with his hand.

The article on concussions in the Times makes one think about these things a bit more, eh?
