The Umpires Giveth….

…and the umpires taketh away.
The Angels are reportedly all pissed off about a curious call by an umpire that allowed the continuation of the White Sox’s ninth inning and ultimate victory.
My, what short memories they have. It was, after all, a worse call in Game Five of the division series against the Yankees that helped them get to the championship series in the first place.
Not that I’m bitter or anything.
And yes, by the way, I am a supporter of instant replay in the playoffs…. The stakes are simply too high to lose a game because of a bad call.

But they’re still arguing about it—three pieces in the Times today.

If you think the call on Cano was even remotely comparable to the call on Wednesday night, you either don’t watch much baseball or are an extremely biased Yankee fan. By the way, does the name Jeffrey Maier ring a bell?

I plead guilty to being an extremely biased Yankee fan.
Jeffrey Maier=all-time Yankee hero.

RB have you lost all perspective?!!
There is NO WAY you can compare what happened on Wednesday night to the Yankees/Angels game. I mean, obviously you can… but
are you hittin’ the crack this early ?! Come on!
That was one of the weirdest calls in all of baseball history. You are such a sore loser. Buck up, little camper.

Going by the centerfield cam, it looked to me like it did change direction (meaning it hit dirt), but from the side you can’t see that. The real problem is definitely that the ump made the fist signaling an out-that’s not in doubt. So, he might be right about the pitch but wrong about calling the out, which means no base.
