  Women Write Back
That Washington Post piece by Charlotte Allen about why women are "dumb" is kicking up a fuss, as it should.

The piece was so weird that even a neo-fem (if that's not a phrase, consider it coined) like Lisa Schiffren takes aim at it.

Writing in the National Review Online
, Schiffren says,

As far as I can tell, there is more than enough stupidity out there to go round. When it's a writer with a dumb idea for a column, the idea is that an editor will exercise better judgement. I'm not an oversensitive feminist. But as a rule, "women are really stupid" columns aren't funny even when written by women.

Of course, Christopher Hitchens would say that that's because women aren't funny....

Comments:
This hasn't been a good week for newspapers and columns for women. Perhaps less shocking on the surface, the Globe's column (also from March 2--bad planetary alignment that day?) is quite a piece of work. http://www.boston.com/jobs/news/

Yes, let's all pull ourselves out of the workforce to have babies!

Sheesh.
