  Hillary's Big Idea
She's hinting at the possibility of a Clinton-Barack ticket, with her in the top slot, 'natch.

Of course this is premature, since she's hardly locked up the nomination, but it's a brilliant idea, because a Hillary-Barack ticket would be so strong and, IMHO, a sure thing to win. So she can subtly plant the idea in people's minds that it's okay for Barack to finish second, taking some of the steam out of his supporters' sails....

Comments:
Obama should completely nix this idea. What could be worse than second fiddle on a Clinton ticket/presidency? The real VP will be Bill Clinton. They are a self-enclosed cabal and no one else will ever have purchase. For Obama, if she pushes him aside this time, the best is to campaign loyally and wait for four to eight more years for his shot. The desire for change will be just as great. Hillary, moreover, may get the nomination after a negative campaign and then lose to McCain.

She has little chance of beating him outright for the nomination. Very little. She netted only ten delegates yesterday, Richard -- keep up!

If she wins Pennsylvania, it becomes considerably closer. And then there are those superdelegates....

And also there's the problem of Obama winning the nomination without winning Ohio, CA, NJ, NY, FL, PA, TX..... He might be able to do it, but it isn't exactly the way one would want to.

PA's not gonna get her anywhere near close enough. Her only chance (barring some major negative news coming out about Obama) is for something to happen re: Florida and Michigan. I doubt they will seat delegates based on the uncontested primaries there, but a do-over is not an unrealistic possibility. If she can win those 2 states and PA, she might get close enough in pledged delegates where the superdelegates will put her over the top. It's a long shot, but it's possible.

unrelated, but any chance you could post a text or PDF copy of "are you completely bald?" the blog post below mentions it in passing, and it caught my interest.

Richard, I agree with you completely. So many of the lefty blogs are filled with Obama partisans and Clinton partisans who can't see the virtues of the other candidate. I thought Hillary's comment was brilliant from a strategic standpoint as well as a real gesture of post-partisanship.

And while she is clearly still behind by 100 or so delegates, as long as there remains a path to the nomination for her (i.e. she builds on her momentum this week with big victories in remaining states AND gets Michigan and Florida delegates seated), she is unlikely to give up.

Either way, they are both strong candidates.

Go Hilbama. Go Oclinton.

The democratic party just handed the presidential victory to McCain last tuesday. McCain's campaign began today, the democrats will keep punching each other, now with a vengeance. When one of them wins they won't have energy for a national campaign and the republicans will then dump a truck load of dirt on whoever is elected.

HIllary's victory yesterday is really a victory for the GOP.

That is the conventional wisdom, 3:39. See the post below for why I disagree.
