  Some Nice Writing
Here's an example of a nice lede for a movie review, by Meghan Keane in the New York Sun, about "The Hottie and the Nottie":

In the grand tradition of female makeover films, from "She's Out of Control" to "The Princess Diaries," Tom Putnam's "The Hottie and the Nottie" stars a perfectly adorable girl in the role of the unattractive misfit. Also, Paris Hilton is in it.

Love that.

And here's a nice graf from "YB," an anonymous scribe who reviews the music magazines Blender, Rolling Stone, and Spin for Gawker. The former two of those magazines currently have Britney Spears on their covers.

YB should disclose his agenda: He does not visit TMZ.com and perezhilton.com and is otherwise not compelled to cogitate on the daily-unfolding events of Ms. Spears' life. He does pretty much like every song he's ever heard released under her name--and he loves more than a few--and is reasonably confident that, if said life had taken another path, she could have easily been one of many southern girls who drops her flimsy garment on a nearby chair then proceeds to gyrate and bend over in front of YB's face for $20 a dance. YB will leave the psychological spelunking to the authors of the articles discussed below, and wish Ms. Spears well.

Nice! Smart and funny, snide and self-deprecating at the same time.

Comments:
I don't get what you're saying at all. Neither of those pieces of writing does anything for me. I can't even process what points they're making, snidely or otherwise. Stupid trite callow pop culture stuff written about mediocre-ly. Who cares?

Well, I don't claim that they're Faulkner. But both have a little bit of flair, and both made me smile.

You do have to say that it contains one telling line (two sentences, actually): "Ah, the false morality of the makeover film. Being ugly gives you character — as long as it's in your past."
