  Oscar Controversy!

How did that sickly-sweet "Falling Slowly" win the Oscar for best song? I'd never heard any of the songs before, but this one, "Raise It Up," from the movie August Rush (who knew there was such a thing?) is way better....

And listen to that 11-year-old girl sing! That's just miraculous.

Comments:
How could you not have heard Falling Slowly? Where have you been hiding for the last year? It's been everywhere. I agree Raise It Up is a pretty thrilling piece, but I'm just glad that none of the Enchanted songs won. God those were all awful.

Gotta agree with anonymous...did you
not see ONCE? LOVELY little Irish
film shot/produced on a shoestring-
HUGE headliner at Sundance,etc.

With your noted appreciation for
solid music, RB....!

Gee, I don't know. The Falling Slowly song was good, if workmanlike. Romantic, sincere, good song. Raise It Up was pop gospel with a trick pony (the 11 year old) leading the choir. You need to visit some churches in your neighborhood if you think that was thrilling.

Or the Gospel Tent at NO Jazz Fest. That's the real deal, there.

I can only assume this means that Richard has not been seeing anyone for the last year. Because no straight male worth his chops would go see Once without being dragged there by a girlfriend.

Your logic is lacking. Accepting your premises that Richard has not seen Once and that all males who've seen Once were dragged their by girlfriends, we do not reach the conclusion that Richard must not have a girlfriend, unless we assume that all possible girlfriends have seen Once.

I, in contrast, assume that Richard has had multiple girlfriends over the past year but that, by self selection, the girlfriends he has had are not the sort to be interested in a movie like Once. The Hottie and the Nottie, more like it.

Or it could be Richard dumps them as soon as they suggest going to see Once.

A wise choice.

You people are idiots. Completely.

No, he just dumps them, period. Over and over and over.

And to the last poster: state your reasons or we'll peel the bark off you.

I love how Richard just leaves these nasty little comments on here for all to see. Brave man. In fear of fanning the flame, I must say.....maybe he just hasn't found the right one yet. It happens.

And btw, he has a lot going on personally right now. So why don't you all lay off for a while? I think he would appreciate it.
