Oh, So That's What Happened
Will the Patriots and their fans never admit that they were soundly thrashed by the Giants?
Now we learn that Ellis Hobbs, the cornerback whom Plaxico Burress beat for the Super Bowl's winning touchdown, was hurt with shoulder and groin problems. And Pats fans are seizing on that information to say, Why was he covering Burress? Things could have been different.
Except that they wouldn't have been. Having watched the Giants all season, I can assure you: covering Plaxico Burress from around the five-yard line is almost impossible. He's fast, he's got great moves, and he's 6'5". He must have caught that exact same pass in that exact same spot in the end zone half a dozen times over the course of the season.
Let us all take a deep breath, concede that the Giants were the better team, and savor the sweet taste of righteous victory..... ¶ 7:40 AM

That's so lame an argument it could only have been dreamed up by a Patriots fan -- or someone residing in Cambridge, MA who never played a sport in his life. First of all, Plaxico Burress was playing with MULTIPLE injuries himself. So it was a fair fight. Second, it's the coaches job to exploit the weaknesses of the other team and to make sure your own players are properly allocated. So the Patriots lost because....Belichick did a bad job. Third, man on man coverage in that situation was just not prudent. In their arrogance, the Pats assumed that Manning was the weak link. In fact, Ellis Hobbs (hurt or not) one on one against Burress was the weak link.
