  Is Hillary Toast?
I'm beginning to think so. She's running out of money, she's not going to win a state in February, and no one really seems to want to vote for her: everyone I've talked to who votes for Hillary is voting based on logic (she's the best-qualified), while everyone who's voting for Obama likes the guy. That does not bode well for Mrs. Clinton, I think....

I also continue to be struck by how many Republicans who say that they kind of like Obama, despite their policy differences.

Could it be that people really do want someone who can unite the nation?

If so, that is the kiss of death for Hillary Clinton.

Comments:
good. because like every other woman i know, we'd love a woman in the oval office. just not THAT woman.

and we love obama.

I've met Hillary a number of times and I like her very much. So there, you're wrong. She certainly comes across better in person, but I think the main problem is Americans are just not ready for a woman leader. It's as simple as that. The qualities that make a leader qualified to be president -- firmness, toughness, etc -- are the ones that make her seem icy, bitchy, etc all the things that make people say they don't like her.

Also, its really not experience. It's depth. Obama just doesn't come across as a very deep well. Inspiring, sure. But he just doesn't come across as "getting it." McCain will clean his clock in November.

I repeat and reiterate: Obama and Clinton fail to earn sufficient first ballot votes to win at convention; draft Gore; Gore defeats McCain.

I like Hillary too.

Obama shellacks McCain.

What better index of 'getting it' IS there than to be inspiring?

I don't think it's a good idea for women to speak for every other woman they know anymore than it is for men to speak on behalf of all men. I certainly don't feel spoken for by 9:16 a.m.

If Hillary is the first famale president, there won't be another one for a long, long, long time.

5:45 p.m.: A question. Do you make that comment because you believe that all women should be judged based on one woman? Or because you think that others judge this way? No one thinks we won't have another male president because of George W, so why should it be the case that HC would, if unpopular, ruin politics for all women? Shouldn't we object to this attitude? I certainly do.

Because I think others will judge that way, regardless of whether or not you and I object.

Hillary certainly looks tonight like she's on the wrong side of the wave that is carrying Obama. But don't count her out until the big primaries in Texas, Ohio and Pennsylvania; after all, Hill and Barry are still roughly tied in the delegate count. (not even factoring her efforts to convert the Florida or Michigan results into delegates.) Team Clinton is tough and smart and has overcome setbacks before. Not sure they can turn this around, given how tough and smart Obama's campaign has been, but I don't see Hillary pulling a Romney anytime soon.

Either way, Democrats have the opportunity to make history AND reverse the Bush craziness. Go Hillbama!

The biggest problem with this dragged out Democratic rush to the finish is that both will wind up spending valuable resources trying to outdo each other -- only to be faced with a Republican monetary mammoth who will crush the Democrats if a candidate doesn't emerge soon. While Republicans may not inspire like the Democrats, they are more organized and execute (no pun intended) plans better. Good strategy and execution always win out over ideals.
