Well, There You Go

A Baptist church in Kansas has announced plans to picket memorial services for Heath Ledger because of his portrayal of a gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain.

“You cannot live in defiance of God,” [church member Shirley Phelps-Roper] said. “He got on that big screen with a big, fat message: God is a liar and it’s OK to be gay.”

How Christian....

I suppose it's encouraging that most of the posts on FreeRepublic, the arch-conservative website that posted this story, are as appalled as any decent person would be.

You're going to have to do better than the Westboro Baptist Church. They're more like a cult than a church. Do a little digging on them (Google, Wikipedia) and you'll be amazed. They hardly represent the Christian Right or anyone else for that matter.

Yeah, you said "Baptist church in Kansas" and I said, "Westboro." These guys are maniacs. They picket the funerals of Army KIAs on the premise that God is punishing the USA as a whole for allowing homosexuality. Their signs say (I'm not making this up) "God Hates Fags."

Disgusting people. Ignoring is more than they deserve.
