First, your readers are lame wusses for responding voluminously to posts on Drew Faust and Hillary Clinton, while leaving untouched, and uncommented upon, this semi-delectable item. Whatever you want to say about Paris Hilton, look at that bod!
Second, why shouldn't she be nominated as Woman of the Year? I would think the guy who found a sly, post-modern rationale for Brittany Spears' "lackluster" (yet self-consciouly image-twisting) performance at the MTV Awards would have seen that Paris Hilton is, indeed, the Woman of the Year for us all.
4:32 I have to agree that this post most definitely begs comment. However, the fact that you think that, even in jest, this "piece" (and she is that at the very best a "piece") is worthy of any type of award especially a Woman of the Year Award, albeit satirical, is just plain sad. That is of course unless (hopefully) the sarcastic nature of your comment was lost on me.
Paris Hilton has done nothing other than bat her eyelashes, say "that's hot" about absolutely everything that is NOT hot, and not once consider all the beneficial things she could actually be doing with her life (and I don't mean throwing killer bashes in Vegas or living it up with Lindsay and Brit). Imagine, with even the littlest bit of human compassion, the things Paris could do for those other than herself, Seriously, if she wasn't born into the Hilton family she would be taking your order at the closest Hooters (at best).
wow, that was quite a rant. Sorry but Paris just serves no purpose in my eyes and Harvard's silly comedic "Woman of the Year" award for her does nothing for me. In my book Tina Fey (or the likes) would have been a much more deserving winner, being that she is actually funny as opposed to pathetic and dumb.
No doubt Paris is beautiful and also vapid. Give her her due though. How many other beautiful yet vapid women have left such an indelible mark on American culture and psyche for being just and only that? Not especially admirable, but definitely powerful. But "Woman of the Year"? Apparently it depends on who you are talking to....
Whoa! Get a life, folks! What do you think the Harvard Lampoon is, the Nobel Prize committee? They make fun of people, including not just the people they invite but all the rest of us too. That's their business!
Good point. But it surely does give one pause when an ivy league organization (albeit a humor magazine) with honorary members like Winston Churchill, John Updike and Kurt Vonnegut declares Paris Hilton their "Woman of the Year", no?
