  Larry Summers on the Economy
At the Brookings Institution in Washington yesterday, the former Treasury secretary and Harvard president lamented the Bush administration's handling of the economy, and warned that the US could be headed for some grim economic times......

Comments:
Why does Larry Summer feel compelled to prophecy? Couldn't he just explain how come applications to several professional schools at Harvard began to decline since he was President? Is this the economy too?

The title of the article is a joke:

"Summers Criticizes Handling of Crises"

Proves that those who can do, those who can't teach.

Whether Larry was a good President or not depends, as do most things, on one's point of view. For Columbia he could not have been better.

The legacy of those terrible US News ratings will be remembered for a long time...

does larry's competency as president of harvard do any work in informing his competency as an economist?

For once, his willingness to speak his mind without a filter is fitting - he's saying what everyone else is reluctant to talk about. the bush administration has screwed us over in yet another way, and it's going to hurt when the bill comes due.

His record as Harvard's President casts doubt on his general intellectual ability. If he is really that smart, how could he be such as bad President?

@10:51a - I see, intellectual ability = executive management ability. that's why harvard never has management problems in general, because of all the smart people there...

Again, his success as the president of harvard doesn't have anything to do with his ability as an economist. the skill sets are entirely different, and it shouldn't have to be argued that expertise/ achievement in one area must mean the same level of ability in any other area.

economics is the area in which larry probably should have remained after leaving the treasury.
