  Pay-Rod Goes Solo?
The Times reports that Alex Rodriguez has asked to negotiate with the Yankees without the presence of his agent, Scott Boras.

Why does this make me happy?

Well, first, because I wrote several days ago that this process shows every sign of being Boras' first big fiasco, and several posters strongly disagreed.

Second, because there'd be worse things than having A-Rod come back to the Yankees under these circumstances. Certainly that would be better than signing Mike Lowell, who hits about .190 when he's not in Fenway....

Comments:
Or maybe .276. And I would be overjoyed if the Sox kept him and went nowhere near A-Rod. Please keep that PR poison, and we'll keep a good player and the change too;)

But I understand your pov, Rich. You have to prepare yourself for another year with the jerk, just when you thought you were rid of the best/worst player in the league.

Gotta disagree with egret here. As a Sox fan, I was really hoping ARod would go to the Angels. The Yanks getting him back is huge for them.

Understand the point, but it also feels good to beat the best (regular season) guy in the game - if he was a real Red Sox killer, I might feel differently.

He's no Ortiz when it comes to clutch situations, that's for sure. But I don't think there's anyone nearly as good out there on the market, so....

And yes, I'll admit that I was exaggerating about Lowell's average away from Fenway. But at his age, he's not likely to hit better than that, is he?

according to the new Bill James stat book coming out, Lowell is projected to regress to about his career average numbers -- .282, 17 HR, 81 RBI

not to shabby, but not the team mvp numbers he put up in 2007.
