  A New President Cometh
Amidst all the drunkenness, it's easy to forget that a new president is being installed at Harvard tomorrow.

(I see that, after blowing off last spring's ROTC graduation, Drew Faust is smart enough to ask ROTC students to march tomorrow.)

I'd like to take the moment to prompt your thoughts on Faust so far: To paraphrase Ed Koch, how's she doing? Are you encouraged by what you see so far? What are your expectations, hopes? Is she making us forget Larry Summers, or wish for Larry Summers?

Don't be bashful, folks. Let's hear your comments. Otherwise, you'll make me feel like I've invited you to a party and no one shows up. (Not that any of us knows what that feels like, right?)

Let's get this intellectual party started.....

Strong feelings, everyone, eh?

Interesting, isn't it, that while Larry Summers is always such a lightning rod for controversy on this blog (and apparently everywhere else) Drew Faust inspires no comment from anybody, anytime about anything. I think that is very telling and not necessarily a good thing. We've gone from one extreme to the other it appears. Everything must be running smoothly and successfully at Harvard these days. No struggle for the soul or has the soul given up and gone south?

Maybe some, within the current Harvard community at least, feel that there should be a temporary moratorium on such talk today and tomorrow - her time to shine.

I may only be speaking for myself, but it seems a bit early to come to a conclusion about Drew Faust. Did people have strong opinions about Summers this early on? If so, were they based on his actual vision for his job and whether or not he was effective? that may not have actuall

Guys, watch the Red Sox and leave Harvard behind for atleast a weekend.

there are people in costumes of Ninja Turtles in the Square tonight. The turtle era has begun...

Folks, has everyone forgotten that Summers came out of the gate with his mouth blazing? So there was indeed more to say about Summers at this point than there was about Faust. By contrast Faust is doing lots of listening. Good for her.

Re 7:33 pm: And Halo 3 costumes. This place is a zoo. Although in the summer it's much more ridiculous, during those sunny weekday afternoons the real crazies are out.

Yes the Summers crazies are all around the place even now. It takes a while to clean up the house.
