Joe Torre: The Contract Was an "Insult"
Appearing relaxed and good humored at a press conference in Westchester this afternoon, outgoing Yankees manager Joe Torre said he rejected the team's one-year contract offer yesterday because he considered the length of the contract and the incentives an "insult."

Up to $8 million for one season?

Richard, you just saved me a whole lot of money. I read your entry titled 'time to get out of the market?' a few days ago, which led me to check a few other sources and decided to move a good chunck of my portfolio to bonds yesterday.

Am I grateful today!

Now, which way from here?

SOX WIN!
Good game, eh, Richard? Drew and bottom of the order looked good, Schilling kept the bullpen fresh, and we're poised, I would say, though I am aware of hybris. Good to see Francona enjoying the game while Torre sulks about only being offered $8M for one year (=c.5 years of Francona's salary?)
GO SOX!

Delighted, 10/19. I'd say the smart move would be to show your gratitude to whomever gave you such great advice by underwriting his blog.....

Actually, Richard, not much of a game, I don't think. It was clear that Carmona had nothing from the first couple of batters, and the point was driven home when he served up a pitch so fat that even J.D. Drew could hit a home run. Almost impossible to come back from a 4-0 first inning deficit at Fenway (I wonder what the stats are), especially when it's clear that your starting pitcher has nothing....

As to Torre, yes; I think he looks ridiculous.

Not much of a game? No, not for a Yankees fan I suppose. I think a game that single-handedly wipes away a player's lackluster season is a hell of a game for that particular fan base.

Sleep well on your bed of money, Torre. You might have time to polish those 20th-century rings now ;)

Howsabout that one, RB?
