Apparently Alan Dershowitz Couldn't Get Him Off
The New York Post reports that Harvard donor and secretive financier Jeffrey Epstein is likely going to jail, because he is also, apparently, slightly pervy and likes to get naked massages from underage girls.

Sources tell Page Six that Epstein's high-powered lawyers - including Alan Dershowitz, Gerald Lefcourt, Roy Black and Kenneth Starr - have been negotiating a deal with federal prosecutors who are probing, among other things, whether the gray-haired money manager paid West Palm Beach girls for sex or transported them across state lines. Epstein is currently charged by the State of Florida with soliciting young prostitutes for sex - but federal charges would be far more serious.

...Palm Beach police records show that on March 15, 2005, a 14-year-old girl alleged she had visited Epstein's estate, where she partially stripped and gave him a massage during which he "pulled out a purple vibrator" and used it on her in exchange for $300....

Comments:
Nice headline, Richard. Are you implying that Epstein had Dershowitz on retainer for something besides legal help?

Gives new meaning to the phrase "approach the bench."

what is most troubling about this story is how close to Harvard's students this individual was allowed to get, by none other than the President and his entourage. Presumably he had this kind of access because of his wealth. None of those who allowed him access have expressed any regrets, remorse or distanced themselves from this alleged sex exploiter of girls.

This episode is particularly odd because there have been instances where Harvard has distinctly distanced itself from donors or potential donors who were associated with questionable practices, sponsoring controversial groups in the Middle East for example. So it is not as if the University is unaware of the risks that come from bad associations... Why was this association not perceived as bad? Shouldn't those who open Harvard's gates wide open to this donor now at least indicate their disapproval of the sexual exploitation of girls?

What lessons should Harvard students draw from this? That money trumps virtue everytime? That everything is for sale, including the ethical standards of Harvard's leaders?

Apparently Bill Gates is not troubled by these issues. He just appointed Summers to his board to help him figure out how to educate girls in poor countries...

Some donors do care about what their teachers and schools taught them in matters of virtue, it remains to be seen how much those who have attended Harvard these last few years will give the University in years to come...

it would be a sad day for Harvard is NOT GIVING to Harvard should become a mark of distinction among donors...

Oh this is inane and pedantic folks. Obviously "virtue" is not a litmus test applied rigorously to every rich donor looking to give money. There's no evidence this guy was running around Harvard Yard feeling up young women or trying to entice them to visit him for a "massage". Deciding to shun war criminals or con artists who want to give money to the university, sure. But trying to sift out what donors might be given to sexual excess, then giving their money back and holding a press conference to denounce them? Fageddaboutit.

Has NO ONE else noticed the vulgar double entendre in the headline?

Entendant a Godot,

I'm shocked shocked that there are vulgar double entendres going on in here!

Get him off of what? I don't get it. (wide-eyed innocent look)

It is very sad that someone involved in sexual exploitation of girl children is not censored by the University that extended him much respect, presumably in ignorance of his crimes.

Whoever refered to those as 'sexual excesses' obviously does not know the difference between pedanterie and pedofilia.

I agree completely with you actually. Puts my bad joke to shame.

On another frustrating note,
