Those damn squid were pranking with the super glue again!

Reading Bob Shrum's book, No Excuses, ran across the following amusing exchange: "Once, at the annual Dartmouth [Debate] Tournament, Larry Summers asked me why he always ended up a quarter- or semi-finalist, and not a winner. I told him he was really smart--he knew it; he often argued brilliantly, but he really didn't listen to the other side."

Interestingly, when I went back this morning to find the page of this comment (p.59), I noticed that Summers' name had been left out of the book index. Is that a common author ploy if he is making an unflattering reference, or just random error?

Got me. The publisher probably hired someone to do the index. On the other hand, sometimes writers of such books omit prominent names so that potential buyers can't just look through the book to find the naughty bits.

How is that Shrum book, by the way?

Shrum can write--no taking that away from him. On the other hand, the book is probably only interesting to those who were in the smoky rooms--otherwise, it's just a recap of the saddest political failures (the defeats of Gore and Kerry) in our time. Shrum himself walked away with a lot of money, but he was a terrible tactician.

There's a great photo of me on that same site where the dolphin and whale picture is found. It's not zen exactly, but it might be good to use on some other occasion.

I'm cute too!

Not quite so funny as my mother perhaps. . . at least in this picture.

Baby Bear is more zen-like, but clearly I'm having more fun.
