  Katie Couric, Plagiarist, Redux
In the New York Sun, David Blum agrees with me: When your blog starts with the words, "I remember when I got my first library card," you should be the one writing it.

Memo to Katie Couric: Give it a try. You might like it.

Comments:
I've checked. Katie's "blog" is a video journal that is clearly just an add-on to her news show. To me, that makes a big difference, since no one thinks she writes her own news. Albeit, pretty stupid to have her start off with "I remember when I got my first library card," if those aren't her words.

Here's something kind of fascinating. If you click on the comments to the most recent of the Katie's Notebook items (something on Obama), you get a raft of comments viciously attacking her on the plagiarism thing and questioning her basic intelligence, as well as one that was clearly written by a loony (it questions Obama's willingness to push the button, i.e., the nuclear button, and commit "theocide" on Iran). I mean, I'm all for anonymous comments and the chaos theory of the internet, but doesn't CBS have some PR people looking over this stuff before allowing it to go on? Hell, YOU delete more comments than they appear to. CBS News appears to be a fast-sinking ship, eh?

I don't mean to be persnickety, but she doesn't put the word "blog" in quote marks, and there are plenty of v-blogs—there's nothing about a blog that says it is inherently type-only. It's more defined by the term, blog, than by the format. (Could be a Podcast, for example.)

You are very persnickety.

Katie reminds me of Charles Barkley, who calimed that he was misquoted in his autobiography.

Vonnegut was right. So it goes.
