  Quote of the Day
"I've never really obsessed over ratings . . . I want to turn out a quality newscast."
—Katie Couric at the 92nd Street Y

And a good thing, too...because, for $15 million a year, those ratings aren't so great.

Comments:
But the other question is -- is she even turning out a quality newscast? I haven't watched her too much but it's not like she's doing anything different than the usual superficial, conventional wisdom, nightly newscast pablum. It's not like she's chasing Edward R Morrow's reputation right now. Am I wrong?

Good point. I don't watch the evening news, so.... Anyone?

I watched her first broadcast just in case there was a train wreck, and she lost me when she asked viewers to help her craft her very own signature sign-off. Way to keep things serious, Katie. Worried about a quality newscast my foot.

She's not very good, too worried about people liking her and also "trying to be serious," but she's also trying so many different things (interviews during the broadcast, e.g.) that she's all over the place. I don't know what the CBS news is all about anymore and I'm not sure she'll last.

I think its pretty funny that Charles Gibson is kicking everyone's ass.
