Ann Coulter Marches off the Deep End
At the Conservative Political Action Committee conference yesterday, she made this "joke": "I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, but it turns out that you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot'"....

The crowd whoops and whistles its delight.

(Here's the video.)

Two things:

Ann Coulter has ceased to be merely irresponsible and is now, flat-out, a bigot. I know Ann and I also know that she is friends with quite a few gay people, and one gay man is one of her closest friends. Wonder how they feel about Ann's turn towards the hate?

Second, the reaction of this crowd is astonishing. They love Coulter's joke. And these are the people whose asses the Republican presidential candidates have to kiss.

No wonder the Democrats recaptured Congress in 2006.....

Comments:
Can you say Projection? Ann Coulter needs to take a good look in the mirror and realize how much like a high end female horse or dog trainer she looks. I.e., mannish. I.e., she's lesbo but she don't know it. (Or maybe she does?) Anyway, what we hate and revile is usually something that tickles us in inner regions we'd rather not penetrate. And I posit this: Ann Coulter wants to be penetrated by a woman.

hey other anonymous, is rolling around in the mud as much fun as you and Ann make it look?

Yes, that first post is really strange, a self-fulfilling prophecy. As an overall conservative (but not a social conservative), I've always hated that Coulter and I were technically on the same side, but this is a new low. What's striking is that you get the feeling she thought she might be able to get away with it--she probably thought the structure of her statement was just clever enough to avoid widespread censure...but she wasn't clever and she does indeed deserve widespread public censure. And the crowd's reaction is scary. I can never be a Democrat, I just don't believe they live in reality (or one I'd even want), and more and more, the GOP refuses to adapt. My kingdom for an Independent.

Actually, the best approach to take with regards to Coulter and her ilk (and by this I mean the loudmouth publicity whores of all political ideologies) is not to censure them, but to ignore them.

Aw, you poor befuddled conservatives, not sure what to do with nasty witch Coulter. God forbid you acknowledge she's the epitome of post-Goldwater GOP politics. Rush, Ann, Bill...they're all embarassing aren't they? But guess what: they speak to your heartland. Democrats don't live in reality? No, YOU don't live in reality.

Proudly, I admit I'm Anon I. I guess you don't like psychological theorizing, and ok maybe I was slinging some mud (but god, if anyone deserves it, she does), but surely instead of calling ME "really strange" you ought to be asking how, even in this strange world of bitter GOP namecalling, she could stoop so low, and be so off-tone, and make, frankly, such a stupid comment. The answer to that can't just be political, or have to do solely with her craving for celebrity or her enjoyment of feeding raw meat to the starving little animals who come to hear her speak. Something else must explain the rampant weirdness. And I say, it is unconscious intellectual cross-dressing for her to be calling married men "faggots". She isn't just being a tough broad; she's stepping over the gender line and acting like a "top" (or should I say, a butch). Does she have hidden lesbian leanings? Well, it's as good a theory as any, because just having to be loudmouth old Ann Coulter doesn't quite explain her statement, if you ask me.

Hopefully, this little stunt will silence Ann Coulter once and for all, as the Republicans . conservatives will want to completely disengage themselves from anymore negative PR. Who knows? Rush Limbaugh might just be marketable again...
