  Meanwhile, in Baseball
The Yankees lost to the Tigers yesterday, 4-3, and there's just one conclusion to be drawn from the game: A-Rod sucks.*

The Yankee third baseman went 0-4, striking out three times, and stranded three runners. Sadly, that pathetic performance is typical of A-Rod in pressure situations. It defines his season this year; even though he has terrific stats, they always seem to come when the Yanks are winning comfortably.

The problem is even worse in the playoffs. A-Rod is 4 for his last 35 playoff at-bats, without a single RBI, for a batting average of .114.

Argh.

Of the Yankees' nine regulars, A-Rod is the one fans least want to see stride to the plate with the game on the line. I've followed the Yankees for 30 years, and sometimes you see this in New York: a great player who just can't cut it under the pressure of playing for the Yankees.

It's time to trade A-Rod....

Alex Rodriguez: A picture of futility.

*Opinion subject to change if he suddenly comes through in the clutch. But—trust me—he won't.

Comments:
Alex, do you still think the reason fans give you a hard time is because you're "good looking" and "bi-racial" (as if Jeter is not both these things AND adored)? Said it before, will say it again--being "clutch" is everything in sports--especially baseball--and therefore the highest paid player in the game is...worthless. Go Tigers!

One of the finest pitching performances of playoff history last night from Kenny Rogers. Unbelievable. All of his past transgressions, throwing cameras and what not, are forgiven. 'At a boy, Kenny. Five hits, fanned eight against the best-hitting (on paper), highest-paid lineup of all time. Oh, how the mighty fell and it was glorious. Bring it home tonight, Detroit. I believe.

PS Pudge WAS out.

Yankees have packed up and gone home. This Red Sox fan salutes the Tigers. In some respects, Harvard shares a position with the Yankees--easily perceived as too rich, too self-satisfied, and too ineffectual.
