  While Harvard Fights...
First it was Columbia. Now NYU has announced that it too is the recipient of a $200 million gift.....

In my talk on Harvard last week at the Union Club, I suggested some alternatives to the left-wing faculty "coup" theory to explain Larry Summers' exit. One of them was that, however you felt about the merits of Larry Summers' arguments, Harvard was suffering from "controversy fatigue"—from Cornel West to anti-Semitism to women-in-science to Andrei Shleifer, it was just one thing after another—and that all the controversy was hurting fundraising.

Funny, isn't it? A former secretary of the treasury who's actually bad for fundraising. Now, that takes some effort.

Comments:
It would be interesting to see how much money Harvard has pulled in during Summers presidency, comparing that not only to his predecessors, but other institutions as well.

Yes, it would be. But Harvard would never release hones numbers....

Whoops! Make that "honest."

True, but would it be fair to suggest that other institutions might also be accused of "fudging the numbers?"
